In the heyday of Xbox and PS2, it was relatively easy to hack game consoles. Nowadays, manufacturers are wiser, making it more difficult to hack game consoles and following it up with a fierce legal battle.

Hackers get access into game consoles by soldering Mod chips to motherboards. This allows them to copy games, replace A ROMs, and even replace dashboards. The latest Mod chip is called the PS3Jailbreak. This chip lets gamers copy and run games on hard drives and to do all of the illegal things that Sony Inc. does not approve of.

While it was only possible to hack a game console by soldering the Mod chip to the circuit board, PS3jailbreak users only need to plug in the Mod chip via USB. A court in Australia has banned the sale and use of the PS3jailbreak . It is illegal to do the same in the US as well.
